Josef Albers (1888-1976), a naturalized American, born in Germany, was a student and teacher at the Bauhaus from 1920 to 1933. When the Nazi regime closed the Bauhaus, he emigrated to America where he taught at Black Mountain College and later Harvard and Yale, where he published his reknown texts on color theory, The Interaction of Color. The theme that predominates Albers' work, and for which he is most well known, is "the square within the square" where he presents inexhaustible color and geometrical combinations.
